Welcome to Filey School

Mrs. Gill (Head)
Welcome to Filey School, a Technology College, Website. I hope you find it interesting and that it will prompt you to visit our school to see our students and staff at work, “learning, caring, achieving”. This is a school where we try to personalise the learning of every student and place great emphasis on the relationship between home and school.

Our school traditionally served the communities of Filey, Hunmanby and the surrounding villages but we now take students from Scarborough, Bridlington, the Wolds villages and beyond. We became a Specialist Technology College in 2005, the same year our new £3.5 million new build was completed.

Our facilities are some of the best in the county: 4 state of the art Computer Suites; a modern Mathematics block; fully refurbished Technology rooms with the very latest equipment, including a Laser Cutter & Industrial Kitchen; a purpose-built Art Studio and the Shirley Cooper Performing Arts Studio with cinema screen and surround sound.

Although we are "tomorrow’s school today", we value tradition and our provision and practices are a blend of the modern and the well-established: we believe in competition and extra-curricular sport; we have a House System which allows our students to compete in drama, music, sport - our annual Sports Day and Swimming Gala are popular events; there is an annual Talent Festival; students have the chance to learn Spanish and French; students are placed in learning groups based on ability; we have a Student Leadership Group which is involved in the running of our school and includes our Head Boy and Head Girl and their Deputies.

We are very proud of our recent achievements: Leading Aspect Award for Languages; International School Award; Highly Effective School Award; Most Improved School Award; Inclusive School Award to name but a few.

OFSTED said we were a "Good and improving school" in 2007 and we are determined to be judged to be even better when they visit again!

We welcome visitors and if you do want to see a happy, thriving community school in action, please give me a call; I will be happy to show you round myself.

Lorraine Gill, Headteacher.
