Headteacher's Thoughts and Updates
THURSDAY 26th JANUARY THE ZONE: Filey Town Mayor joined us this afternoon to officially open 'The Zone' where our Student Mentors are based. Student Mentors were a real credit to the school, demonstrating the maturity, communication skills, positive attitudes and good role model behaviour that led to them being selected for the role. Well done to all mentors - I was so proud to be there to see you showing why you are mentors and so proud of you! Thanks to Mr Hindley and Mrs Wainwright for their hard work as coordinators of the student mentoring project. Thanks to Cameron and Callum from the 'Creative Digital Media Club' for taking quality photographs to mark the occasion. Thanks also to representatives of Tesco for joining us as part of their valued continuing support for student mentoring at Filey School. Mr Dickinson WEDNESDAY 25th JANUARY YEAR 7 A-LIST: I am SO impressed! Review of reports from the end of last term shows more Year 7 students on the A-List since October. The number of students qualifying for the next rewards event because of lots of A grades for 'Application to Learning' has DOUBLED from the previous half-term. We now need to organise an event that will include over 40 students. Well done to all! I hope to see even more Year 7 students gaining such a reward after the next reports in February. Mr Dickinson TUESDAY 24th JANUARY YEAR 9 PARENTS' CONSULTATION EVENING: A positive evening. Lots of students and parents/carers involved in discussions about progress with teachers and clearly giving very serious consideration to the important learning choices that have to be made. Thank you to all who attended. Mr Dickinson TUESDAY 24th JANUARY BUGSY MALONE. Principal roles have been allocated. The list is available from Mr Chatto in the Performing Arts Studio. I will publish the full list in FILEY FOCUS newsletter at the end of this month. Rehearsals will start very soon. Mr Dickinson MONDAY 23rd JANUARY THANK YOU to Filey Rotary for their continued support for and recognition of the success of Filey School students through their generosity in providing the 'Application to Learning Award'. Thanks also to Mr Peter Milnes, President of Filey Rotary, for giving his time to present the awards personally. Mr Dickinson MONDAY 23rd JANUARY CONGRATULATIONS to students listed below who were presented with 'Rotary Award for Application to Learning' today. Award presented for consistently outstanding effort and application. They received a certificate and £20 shopping vouchers from President of Filey Rotary. Names have been engraved on Rotary plaque in school. Leah Smith, Maisie Robinson, Megan Crookes, Helena Yeadon, Ellie Rogers, James Maddison, Emma Barlow, Matthew Pickard, Alex Ward, Joanna Pattison, Sarah Pickering, Robyn Trowsdale, Jemma Greenin, Katie Greenin, Beth Jenkinson and Jess Robinson. Well done & Keep it up! Mr Dickinson 18th JANUARY YOUTH SPEAKS: Year 7 students Amelia Rudeforth, James Corner and Georgia Render will be taking part in the 'Youth Speaks' public speaking/debating comeptition in February, supported by English teacher Mrs Robinson. Good luck to them. Mr Dickinson WEDNESDAY 18th JANUARY CRICKET WICKET REFURBISHMENT: Fantastic confirmation that the refurbishment of our cricket wicket, largely funded by the Lords Taverners, is due to take place on 8th and 9th March, giving plenty of time for it to bed in before we need to play on it. We have to part-fund the refurbishment. Ideas for fundraising or donations would be greatly appreciated and should be passed to Mr Ellis. Mr Dickinson TUESDAY 17th JANUARY THANKS TO PTFA who today agreed to continue their support for extra-curricular sport by purchasing a new basketball kit so that Year 7 and Year 8 students have their own kit and don't have to wear an old kit that is too large for them.
